Hey everyone, Chelsea here with the Champagne Agency. Today, I want to talk about the most common Michigan auto insurance mistake that parents make, and the important thing to know is that it's almost never intentional. Uh, the mistake is not listing everyone in your household on the auto insurance policy.
Most parents assume that if your kids aren't driving yet or you don't have a license, they don't matter when it comes to auto insurance. But in Michigan, that's not how the coverage works. Michigan has a unique coverage called personal injury protection or PIPP. This is what pays your medical bills if someone is injured in an auto accident. Because of that coverage, insurance companies need to know every person living in the household, regardless of age or driving status.
When someone isn't listed, it can create problems after an accident, such as claim delays, extra questions from the insurance company, or, in worst-case scenarios, coverage challenges. And most of the time, this happens simply because no one explained why that information mattered. T
That's why we're very intentional about asking these questions upfront and walking through them clearly. It's not about charging you more or digging into your personal life. It's more about protecting your family if something unexpected happens. If you're a parent and you're not 100% sure if your household is listed correctly, there's an easy thing to double-check now. Instead of finding out later when it really matters. If you have questions or if something has changed in your household, please give us a call. We're always here to help. Have a good day. Bye-bye.
